Welcome to the update page for my ebook writing and formatting guide: How To Publish An Ebook On A Budget - An Author's Guide.
As the whole ebook scene moves so fast I regularly update the ebook versions of this guide. When updates have accumulated I also make new print versions, but not so often. The updates are categorised into promotion/techie etc and gathered under the date inserted. For information that isn't in your copy you only need to scroll down to the date you purchased. If you have any questions - if anything's not clear (or you spot any typos!) - please comment and I can then adjust the Master next time I'm updating.

I'm still getting the hang of forums. Am shy to comment and threads I start nearly always peter out into nothing. Have just struck gold however. My question on Kindleboards' Writer's Cafe forum:

INSERTING PICTURES INTO YOUR EBOOK
ANCHORING PICTURES IN WORD
Reader Melvin has pointed out the Word picture anchoring instructions didn't work on his version of Word.
1. On very old versions of Word:
Click Layout.
Click Advanced
You'll see 2 options at the top: Picture Position/Text Wrapping
If you click on Picture Position you get the Lock Anchor option.
2. On other Word versions the procedure might be:
Click Format.
Click Position.
Click More Layout Options.
Click Lock Anchor

WORKING WITH TEXT EDIT
Note that pictures cannot be placed in TextEdit. They have to be reinserted after you have cut and pasted your Plain Text words into your new Smashwords Word Master.

Florence & Giles by John Harding
Nicola Morgan has just reviewed this book on her Help! I Need A Publisher blog, reminding me of what a great book it is. Lots of love for this book in our house. My teenage daughter also loved this so much. She cottoned on to solving the mystery at the centre of this story long before I did and actually rang me from where she was reading to talk about it! A complete classic. Why wasn't it in the Booker list?
